Mission:

Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic School, in partnership with parents, provides a community-based, multicultural, affordable, quality education to children in the Greater Kansas City area. We honor the heritage of our students by integrating the Spanish language and celebrating traditions, customs, and holidays. Our school seeks to provide high academic standards, discipline, and leadership, which encourage students to achieve their full potential in a spiritual environment.

The Learning Environment:
Children are taught self discipline in a setting that enables learning, and teaches responsibility and respect. The focus of our curriculum is literacy development and computer education. Our faith-based learning is reinforced by daily prayer and weekly mass. Cultural presentations are brought to the classroom or are the subject of field trips such as to the American Jazz Museum, Mattie Rhodes Art Gallery and the American Royal.

Our enrollment is small - normally about 100 students, which fosters good teacher/student relationships and provides the individual attention students need. To encourage a strong school indentity, students are required to wear uniforms.

TOP 10 LIST OF RULES/GUIDELINES

  1. We can only give your child prescription medication if it is in the original bottle from the pharmacy and is accompanied with a doctor’s note. Over the counter medication (including cough drops) can only be given with a doctor’s note.
  2. Absences will have an affect on your child’s grades. Children with excessive absences will not be promoted to the next grade at the end of the year (this is a state law). Consequences for excessive tardiness include: loss of privileges, detention, a meeting with parents to create a plan for the child. Students who arrive at school after 9:15 will be counted as a ½ day absence.
  3. Students are expected to complete their homework each night. If homework is not completed, students will loose special privileges for that day (music class, recess…).
  4. Students should not be picked up from school early as this causes chaos for your child, the other students, and the teacher. In the event of an emergency, please call the school so we may notify the teacher that the child is leaving early. Any student leaving before dismissal must be signed out in the school office by a parent or another person authorized to pick up the child.
  5. Students should not wear sandals, shirts with spaghetti straps/sleeveless shirts, baggy pants, or dangly earrings to school. This is for their safety. Boys are not allowed to wear earring at OLG School. Pants and shorts should be regulation uniform pants/shorts (navy blue with a button and zipper).
  6. In the event of a school field trip, students must have a signed permission slip. Telephone calls, handwritten notes, or faxes cannot be substituted.
  7. Students may either have a school lunch or they may bring their lunch. If the school lunch is eaten, the students may not bring extra food, desserts, or drinks. Government regulations demand that all children eating the school lunch drink milk. If a child is allergic to milk, we will need a doctor’s note. Juice will be provided for these children.

We will follow the KCMO Public Schools for school closings due to severe weather. On rare occasions Our Lady of Guadalupe School may be listed individually. We recommend the FOX Station (Channel 4).
  10. We recommend you read the Parent/Student Handbook for an entire listing of school rules, regulations, and policies. Please see the principal if you have any questions.
